Sookie Stackhouse Series #6

4/5 Stars

Book 6 picks up where we left on if book 6, Dead as a Doornail, left off.  Sookie is with the sexy Quinn and she is, yet again, trying to have a normal life.  Now we all know that Sookie will never have a normal life but I definitely wish she would every once in a while…

Through out the other 5 books Sookie has mentioned, in passing, her cousin Hadley who is the only other “living” relative of hers besides Jason.  Hadley was a life full of partying and ended up being turned into a vampire.  Sookie still cares for her because they are related but hadn’t had contact with her for many years.  Charlaine writes about Hadley’s story in one of her short stories that was released before this book, I however have not read it and if you haven’t just know you feel slightly lost when it comes to Hadley.  So in this book Hadley has died for good, not just vampire dead but definitely dead and it was at the hands of a murderer.  Sookie has been left Hadley’s apartment and other belongings so Sookie and Quinn make the trip to New Orleans to try to sort things out.

This trip to New Orleans throws Sookie into another whirl of mysteries and near-death experiences.  You meet several new characters, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all, and we get to see the true and powerful magic that can come from a witch!  I loved how Harris really brought magic into this book and helped us learn to respect witches a bit more.  I enjoyed the ectoplasmic reconstruction spell that is made to play events in the past out, kind of like a dream, so you could see what actually happened in a certain place…it’s just AMAZING!

I must also state that I am VERY happy that Sookie might actually have things with Debbie Pelt’s family tied up and that they shouldn’t come back and haunt, or maybe hunt is a better word, her any more.  That has been going on for 3 books now and I just hope Sookie can find peace from that whole situation.

The end of this book ends in another exciting fight/war scene.  It is very exciting and intense and you should not be disappointed in the action!  The events leading up to it and during the fight really tie into and lead up to book 7.

Overall: I really enjoyed the book, you had a little of everything from the different supernatural beings.  There might have been a lot of events occurring in this book but again I do believe it’s just trying to lead up to the next book.  I will also say this every review but you definitely need to read the entire series in order.  By this time if you try to pick this up and read it you won’t appreciate it at all.  Charlaine does try to recap everyone’s past to keep people updated that might not have read the previous books but it’s just not the same at all!

  1. For some reason the whole series is a blur for me, read too many at once o_O

    • LOL, that’s exactly how I feel on this reread. I remember the big events of the book but I completely remember some of the details and some of those details are very VERY important! I’m glad I’m not the only person who has forgotten a lot of the details!
